VISION STATEMENT

The academic advising program in the Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business aspires to guide and empower students of diverse backgrounds to utilize a full range of resources and opportunities in order to enrich their personal and intellectual growth.


MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to provide academic advising that creates a positive climate for maintaining a respectful relationship between advisors and students. This partnership will assist students in the development and accomplishment of meaningful, educational plans that are compatible with their life goals.


VALUES STATEMENT

Advising is an integral and necessary process of higher education. It is a powerful partnership, which greatly improves the quality of the student learning experience. Academic advising in the Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business is a professional interaction committed to:

  • a high level of student service through honesty, accuracy, friendliness, confidentiality, and respect for individual differences;
  • advocating educational achievement by encouraging self-reliance, developing meaningful plans for life and career goals, and promoting life-long learning through informed decisions and choices;
  • by maintaining an environment that encourages respect, teamwork, and professional development.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

Cognitive:

  • Be able to apply previously understood information and concepts to a new situation
  • Be responsible for developing educational, life, and career plans

Affective:

  • Recognize the value added to the undergraduate experience as a result of the school, the advisor, and the student’s engaged efforts
  • Appreciate the role that a Business education will play in achievement of life and career goals

Skills:

  • Be able to identify and utilize campus and community resources
  • Be able to use electronic resources such as campus and system websites, the Schedule of Classes, and PAWS to access information
