Undergraduate Research Opportunity ProgramThe Undergraduate Research Opportunity (UROP) is designed for motivated students who want to take an active role in their education through “learning-by-doing.” UROP pairs first- and second-year students with leading academic researchers. Building on a strong tradition of undergraduate research at UWM, the UROP makes it possible for even first- and second-year undergraduates to participate first-hand in the University's research mission.
Students are teamed with faculty members based on shared interests and then work side-by-side with their mentors on research projects. Students receive up to three credits each semester for their work (the Apprenticeship), and participate in a special one-credit UROP Seminar to discuss their research and learn about methodological approaches in other disciplines.
