Congratulations once again on your admission to UWM! Now that you’ve been admitted, there are a few important steps to complete before you can register for New Student Orientation, and sign up for Fall classes. Read more about these next steps below…

New Freshman Checklist

Activate your ePanther (ID).  Your ePanther ID is an important link to your accounts at UWM, including your PAWS account.

Log into your PAWS account.  Your PAWS account is your connection to important information including your To Do List, Finances (where you can see charges and make payments), and your financial aid information.

Pay the $100 Confirmation Deposit.  Completing payment of this deposit confirms your intent to enroll at UWM. You can pay on your PAWS account by clicking on ‘Make a Payment' in the Finances section.

Payment Options – Bursar’s Office  

Complete your Housing Contract and submit the $100 Housing Prepayment/Deposit. You will receive access to your Housing Contract via email, and we encourage you to complete your Contract by May 1st (December 15 for Spring admits).  May 1st is also the priority deadline for all housing preferences, including Living Learning Community and preferred roommate requests.  After submitting your Contract, you will be billed for your $100 Housing Prepayment/Deposit.  Be sure to pay this deposit in PAWS at your earliest convenience to secure your spot in University Housing.

Consider financial options and apply for financial aid.  As soon as January 1st, you can complete and submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).We encourage you to file your FAFSA by the priority deadline of March 1st in order to maximize your potential financial aid. Complete your FAFSA at fafsa.gov, and use UWM’s school code: 003896. financialaid.uwm.edu

For Spring admits, submit your FAFSA by November 15th in order to know what you are eligible for before classes start.  

Complete your UW System placement tests.  All incoming New Freshmen must complete placement testing in Math and English.  Registration for placement tests opens February 1st (October 1st for Spring admits), and testing dates begin in March (November for Spring admits). For the most flexible testing options, register and complete your tests by May 1st.

After you have paid your Confirmation Deposit, completed your Housing requirements, and taken your placement tests, you will be invited to register for New Student Orientation.

New Student Orientation (NSO) Orientation is required for all New Freshmen, and is a great opportunity to become more acclimated to campus, meet your fellow Panthers, meet with your advisor and register for Fall courses. If you are ready to sign up for Orientation, you’ll see it as a To Do List item on your PAWS account. Registration begins in April (November for Spring admits). We encourage you to register for the earliest possible NSO date so that you’ll have the best selection of courses. Register by May 1st for the most flexible NSO options.

Go Milwaukee is a full-day program for admitted students where we will help you finalize your decision to make UWM your new home. Take the opportunity to connect with other future UWM Panthers, tour the city of Milwaukee, and hear from alums and current students about why they love UWM. The Credit Agreement (also found in the Finances section) must be completed before you become eligible to enroll in courses.

Monitor PAWS for news of your credit evaluation. Your transfer credit will be formally evaluated upon admission, and may take up to 2-3 weeks before it becomes available to view on PAWS. You can register for classes prior to receiving a credit evaluation, but we strongly encourage you to consult an advisor before starting classes. Log onto your PAWS account to identify your advisor. 

Schedule an academic advising appointment to review degree requirements and plan your classes. advising.uwm.edu

Monitor PAWS for your enrollment appointment. Once you have completed your Confirmation Deposit payment and Credit Agreement, you should receive an enrollment appointment identifying the date and time at which you can begin registering for classes on PAWS.For Spring enrollment, check PAWS in November, and for Fall enrollment check PAWS in April.

Planning to take online classes? Explore UWM’s web-based learning environment Desire2Learn (D2L) at d2l.uwm.edu. Your class will appear on D2L by the first day of class. 

Decide on housing options: You can choose University Housing, Neighborhood Housing, or commute to campus. If you’d like to live in University Housing, submit a housing contract and turn in your housing preferences by May 1 (November 15 for Spring admits) for the best chance of getting your first pick. You can find housing contracts at uwm.edu/housing/myhousing.

Sign up for Transfer and Adult Student Orientation (TASO) TASO is a great opportunity for New Transfer students to connect with campus services and resources, get to know student leaders, campus staff, and other new transfer/adult students, explore your future neighborhood, and meet with an advisor to review the classes you’ve selected. For Fall enrollment, you can register for TASO beginning in March (November for Spring admits). For more information about TASO programming and dates, and to register, visit taso.uwm.edu. 

Send your final college transcript(s). If you are currently enrolled at another college or university, or have just completed your final semester there, be sure to send us your final transcript once your grades have been posted. Transcripts can be sent to:
