Galleries
The Peck School of the Arts is home to the Institute
of Visual Arts (Inova), which maintains galleries
in two locations on campus (including Gallery 3b, which showcases
undergraduate work) and the Mary L.
Nohl Galleries. In addition, the Department of Visual Art collaborates
frequently with the Union Art Gallery and with exhibition spaces
in the community.
Ceramics
The area occupies two large facilities, one on campus and the other
in the Kenilworth building one mile south of campus. The department
also hosts a unique study abroad program
where students can study archeological sites and the culture of
Peru every semester. Students in ceramics are also involved in
many exciting
community projects, such as the unique Anagama wood-fired kiln
in rural Wisconsin, and the Empty Bowls fundraiser for charity.
Fibers
The facilities include several large, newly-renovated studios for
weaving, fiber construction, surface design and a dedicated digital
lab.
Graphic Design
The design program facilities include several digital labs, a letterpress
studio, and large critique and classroom spaces.
Jewelry and Metalsmithing
The well-equipped studios are housed in a newly-renovated and
ventilated building. They include facilities for smithing,
casting, enameling,
electroforming and anodizing, and spray etching. A very large
array of metalsmithing equipment is available as well as many
other hand
and power metal working tools.
Painting and Drawing
Painting and drawing studio facilities include a life-drawing
theater style studio, introductory and intermediate level
painting studios,
multiple purpose drawing studios, and assigned individual
work spaces for students at the Advanced Painting level.
Photography
The facilities include newly-remodeled darkrooms for black-and-white
and color processing.
Printmaking
The printmaking studios occupy over 6000 square feet, and
include specialized facilities for water-based screen
printing, intaglio,
lithography and
relief/monoprint.
Sculpture
Sculpture facilities are housed in a dramatic, newly-renovated
building. The studios are equipped with a variety of
tools, equipment and facilities
for the creation of sculpture in many traditional and
contemporary materials. Personal safety is emphasized
at all times.
Graduate Studios
The Kenilworth Building, where graduate student
studios are located, is a stand-alone building on
Milwaukee's East Side, less than a mile from the UWM campus.
Kenilworth contains studios for all of the arts, including dance,
film, music and theatre. |
