UWM Concert Band Festival
The UWM Peck School of the Arts Department of Music proudly presents the 6th annual UWM Concert Band Festival on Wednesday, March 14, 2007. The Festival will be held in the beautiful Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts, located on the UWM campus. Bring your bands to our campus for a day of performances, adjudicator feedback, and a live clinic session!

We are excited to announce that Prof. Stephen Pratt, Director of Bands at Indiana
University, will be joining this year’s panel of clinicians.

The UWM Concert Band Festival is open to school wind ensembles and concert bands
whose applications either meet the February 15, 2007 deadline or are among those who
fill all of the performances slots on a first-come, first-served basis. We therefore urge
you to submit your application as soon as possible.

Perform
Bands will be scheduled in 30-minute blocks to perform concert selections for three adjudicators in the Bader Concert Hall. We suggest 3 selections, or about 15-20 minutes worth of music. On-stage time (including enter and exit) is strictly limited to 30 minutes per ensemble.

Clinics
A clinic on the performance will then be given by one of the adjudicators at a separate location. Each band will receive taped and written comments in addition to the clinic. Conductors will also receive a videotape of their performance.

Critical comments
In addition to the live clinic session with one of the adjudication panel, the remaining
members of the panel will also offer audio cassette tape of their impressions of your
performance. All of these comments are intended to provide supportive and constructive
suggestions for offering a superb performance!

Clinicians scheduled to participate
Stephen Pratt, Director of Bands, Indiana University
Prof. Tom Dvorak, Director of Bands, UWM
Prof. Scott Corley, Assistant Director of Bands, UWM

Schedule top
Please indicate on your application whether you prefer a morning (8:30-11:30 am) or afternoon (1:00-4:00 pm) performance slot. Exact times will be assigned once registration has closed. We will attempt to honor as many requests as possible, and preferences will be considered in order of receipt of the registration form and fees. See Below for sample morning and afternoon performance schedules.

It is the responsibility of each conductor to secure for their ensemble(s) their own transportation, meal plans (if any), and complete itinerary. May we suggest the following considerations:

  • enough time for travel and unloading/loading of equipment
  • 30-minute slots will be assigned for warm-up, performance, and clinic sessions
  • lunch plans (student union and local restaurants in walking distance are options)
  • hearing of several other groups
