Professor Scott Corley, director

The Symphony Band ranks as one of the finest of its kind, having performed with a number of distinguished composers such as John Corigliano, Joseph Schwantner, Karel Husa, Samuel Adler, Warren Benson, Fisher Tull, Anthony Iannocone, and David Holsinger. Symphony Band provides a wide range of repertoire performance, and appears frequently as regional conferences. In the summer of 1996, the UWM Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band toured Australia and Hawaii. While in Australia, they were a featured ensemble for the 9th Annual Australian Band and Orchestra Association’s National Convention in Melbourne, and performed at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial while in Hawaii.

Under the guidance of Professor Thomas Dvorak, Symphony Band recording projects have included the “Classics for Wind Ensemble/Symphony Band” and the 2000 GIA Publication “Teaching Music through Performance in Beginning Band”.

Membership is open to all graduate and undergraduate students through audition.

Symphony Band rehearses 5 hours per week: Monday, 2:00-3:50, Wednesday, 2:00-2:50, and Friday, 2:00-3:50. Music majors receive one credit for Symphony Band. Non-music majors can register for two credits. All rehearsals are held in Room 280 of the Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts.
