Professor
Scott Corley, director
The Symphony Band ranks as one of the finest
of its kind, having performed with a number of distinguished
composers such as John Corigliano, Joseph
Schwantner, Karel Husa, Samuel Adler, Warren Benson, Fisher Tull,
Anthony Iannocone, and David Holsinger. Symphony Band provides
a wide range
of repertoire performance, and appears frequently as regional conferences.
In the summer of 1996, the UWM Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band
toured Australia and Hawaii. While in Australia, they were a featured
ensemble
for the 9th Annual Australian Band and Orchestra Association’s
National Convention in Melbourne, and performed at the Pearl Harbor
National Memorial while in Hawaii.
Under the guidance of Professor
Thomas Dvorak, Symphony Band recording projects have included the “Classics
for Wind Ensemble/Symphony Band” and the 2000 GIA Publication “Teaching
Music through Performance in Beginning Band”.
Membership
is open to all graduate and undergraduate students through audition.
Symphony Band rehearses 5 hours per week: Monday,
2:00-3:50, Wednesday, 2:00-2:50, and Friday, 2:00-3:50. Music majors
receive one credit for Symphony Band. Non-music majors
can
register
for
two
credits. All rehearsals are held in Room 280 of the Zelazo Center
for the Performing Arts.
