SATURDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2005

FIRST ANNUAL PERCUSSION DAY
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts Department of Music Percussion Studio presents the first annual Percussion Day, a solo and ensemble clinic featuring selections from the WSMA percussion contest lists. Percussion Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 22, 2005 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in the Helene Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts, 2419 East Kenwood Boulevard on the UWM campus.

Percussion students (middle and high school level), educators and ensemble directors will gain insight into percussion selections on the WSMA contest list, from learning to choose an appropriate piece to producing an accurate and musical performance. Clinics will focus on style, technical considerations, set-up suggestions, and mallet and stick selection.
Percussion Day faculty presenters include Dean Borghesani, Anthony DiSanza, Carl Storniolo and Tom Wetzel. Activities include clinics and ensemble presentations by UW and UWM students, guest performances by the UWM Youth Percussion Ensembles, and opportunities to visit exhibitor booths.

Fortunate enough to participate in a very active band program in high school, music school was the obvious choice for Wetzel following graduation. Wetzel went on to advanced studies at Carnegie-Mellon University and then the Manhattan School of Music. Since then, he has had a very busy professional career. A member of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra since the 70’s, Thomas has also been a member of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Orchestral Association, and the Cassals Festival Symphony Orchestra.
