The UWM Peck School of the Arts Mainstage Theatre is a 525 seat thrust theatre that may also be used in a proscenium configuration increasing capacity to 575. The thrust stage is made up of seven individual stage elevators that may be used at varying levels depending upon production requirements. The 20 ft. high proscenium opening may vary from 38 ft. to 52 ft. in width. A full stage grid supports the 27 line counterweight rigging system with access from above the grid to the entire stage fifty feet below. The stage measures 29 ft. from fire curtain to back wall with 28 ft. from fire curtain to downstage tip of thrust. The width of the stage from the stage right fly rail to the stage left wall is 80 ft.

The recently upgraded stage lighting system consists of 384 dimmer/circuits controlled by an ETC Obsession 600 with full featured designer's remote console that includes moving lights module. The entire system is linked by ETCNet and DMX control wiring and served by an 800 amp. 3 phase supply.

The UWM Peck School of the Arts Studio Theatre is a 100 seat 40 ft. by 50 ft. black box theatre with a lighting grid hung at 14 ft. above the entire area. Seventy-two 2.4kw dimmers controlled by an ETC Microvision provides stage lighting in the room. Recently acquired manufactured seating risers provide easy reconfiguration of performance space.

The UWM Peck School of the Arts Chamber Dance Theatre is a 40 ft. x 64 ft. dance studio that can be set up as 100 seat proscenium performance space. Recently purchased seating risers provide easy setup of performance space.

Peck School of the Arts theatre and dance performance spaces are supported by substantial shops and studios

  • A Principal Rehearsal Studio located in adjacent Mitchell Hall (385) is 42 ft. by 58 ft. with adjacent lockers and shower facilities.
  • A Second Acting and Rehearsal Studio (T7) is a 40 ft. x 50 ft. studio with a sprung dance floor is located in the basement of the theatre building.
  • The Stage Management Studio is adjacent to all production areas and provides desk space for all stage management students.
  • The Costume Shop is a spacious room adjacent to principal and chorus dressing rooms, separate fitting room, wardrobe maintenance, and craft areas. A 20 ft. x 50 ft. principal workspace includes four cutting tables, a variety of industrial sewing machines and surgers.
  • The Properties and Costume Crafts Studio, site of recent ventilation upgrades, is a safe place for fabric dyeing and painting, mask making, casting, and upholstery activities. Commercial dyeing equipment and a walk in spray booth are located in the 32 ft. x 38 ft. space.
  • The Properties Shop contains tools appropriate to furniture construction and carpentry. This 20 ft. by 36 ft. space is dedicated to props production.
  • The Scenery Shop has recently received extensive new ventilation and dust collection equipment with the creation of a separate area for welding. The 30 ft. x 80 ft. main shop contains professional woodworking equipment with easy access to stage and loading dock and is served by a separate secure tool room. The welding room contains MIG and stick welders. A separate storage space above the welding area contains an extensive range of rigging equipment.
  • The Drafting Studio contains 20+ drafting tables used for instruction and execution of student assignments.
  • The Theatre Computer Lab is a mediated classroom maximized for use by students with laptop computers. The lab features three hardwired high speed network connections, high resolution scanners, large format printers, laser jet printer, video editing station with capture and VTR monitor and three large screen CRT monitors. In addition to being well covered UWM’s ProwlNet wireless network service, three Apple Macintosh computer stations featuring the MS Office Suite, Apple’s iLife Suite, Vectorworks, and audio editing applications are available to the students.
  • The Peck School of the Arts Computer Lab contains 22 Mac 8500s networked to campus and internet. The lab includes 2 LaserWriters, 1 Color LaserWriter, file Server, large format color ink jet, scanning station. Software includes: Photoshop, Illustrator, Painter, StrataVision, Quark, Pagemaker, and PageMill.
  • The Theatre sound and light lab is centrally located at the PSOA’s newly opened Kenilworth Square digital arts facility. This space is home to the latest in digital recording and editing. Interfacing elements of sound design, video and lighting, the space features an acoustically treated recording studio and 25 foot square lighting and projection space split by a spacious control room. Maximized for use by students with laptop computers, the space features high speed digital connectivity, software synthesizers, multi-channel digital interfaces and traditional hardware signal processors. Large format displays and powered audio monitors replicate theatrical systems for cutting edge show control programming, greatly expanding the capabilities of performance and artistic flexibility.
