Beta Gamma Sigma
We are a honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in a business program accredited by AACSB International, and is akin to being admitted into Phi Beta Kappa for liberal arts students. Beta Gamma Sigma has uniquely Wisconsin roots. In the spring of 1907, a group of commerce students at the University of Wisconsin received permission from the faculty to organize a commerce honor society, which they called Beta Gamma Sigma. The purpose of the Society was to encourage and reward scholarship and accomplishment in the field of business studies among commerce students at the University. Action was initiated in 1919 to establish Beta Gamma Sigma as the only scholastic honor society recognized by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

Our chapter at the Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business was established in 1971, and has fall and spring induction of new members who are in the top cohorts of their Junior, Senior, Master, and Doctoral programs. Top business leaders speak at each BGS induction ceremony. Beta Gamma Sigma’s mission is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business, to foster personal and professional excellence, to advance the values of the Society, and to serve its lifelong members.

Election to membership in UWM’s chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma is by invitation only.
