Health Sciences - Public Health Microbiology
Program Overview
Public Health Microbiology is offered by the CHS' Department of Health Sciences as one of six submajors in the Clinical Laboratory Sciences (CLS) degree program. As a Public Health Microbiologist, you'll investigate the fascinating world of organisms too small to be seen with the naked eye. Using a microscope, you'll study living organisms and infectious agents and how they affect our lives, including those agents that pose a threat to public health. Microbiologists collaborate with other scientists and work in almost every industry, from food to veterinary medicine to space research.
When you successfully complete the pre-professional criteria, you will be eligible for an clinical training at the City of Milwaukee Health Department. Upon graduation, you will also be eligible for professional certification through the respective national accrediting organizations.

The excellence of the CLS program has been recognized and is ranked in the top 10 programs among hundreds across the country. Because the program provides a strong science background, professional management skills, and technical expertise, our graduates consistently score in the top 25th percentile on national certifying exams, and almost without exception, pass the first time they take them. You'll learn from distinguished faculty with diverse backgrounds who actively engage in research and service activities. The CLS program, which is housed in a state of the art laboratory facility, has been delivering exceptional graduates for more than 30 years. Join us and be among the best as you start your career!
