Interests & Expertise

Joe is a native of southwestern Pennsylvania. He completed his undergraduate degree at St. Pius X Seminary, Erlanger, Kentucky in 1982 with a BA in Liberal Arts, majoring in Philosophy. He went on to graduate studies in Rome, Italy. There he completed an STB in Theology at the University of St. Thomas Aquinas in 1985 and then attended the Academia Alfonsiana at the Lateran University, earning an STL in Ethics and Moral Theology.

He was ordained in 1986 and served in the Diocese of Greensburg, Pennsylvania for 19 years. While in the Diocese, he served as Parochial Vicar at Saints Simon and Jude Parish, Blairsville, PA and at Ascension Parish, Jeannette, PA, as well as Director of Vocations, Director of Continuing Education for Clergy, Dean of Region IV, Adjunct Faculty at St. Vincent Seminary, and Chaplain of Seton Hill University. During his last eight years in the Diocese he served as Pastor and Administrator of Holy Trinity Parish and School in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. There he completed a three year capital campaign raising $4.1 million for a multi-phased renovation and construction project that resulted in the construction of a new church.

Throughout his career he served in several national and community organizations that include: the Ethics Committee of Jeannette District Memorial Hospital, the National Council of Diocesan Vocation Directors, and the National Organization for the Continuing Education of the Roman Catholic Clergy, the Board of Directors of Bethlen Nursing Home, the Ligonier Valley Association of Churches, and the Ligonier Valley Lion’s Club.

Finally, he earned a black belt in Tang Soo Do in 2004 from the North American Karate and Fitness School, Greensburg, PA. In 2005, Joe moved from active ministry and went on sabbatical at Marquette University. From 2006 to February, 2010 Joe was employed at Santa Fe Communications, Inc. as its Ministry Director of Development, leading its major donor and planned giving programs. Currently, he is a member of the Milwaukee chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and serves on its Ethics Committee. Joe earned the CFRE credential as a fundraising executive from CFRE International in July, 2009. Lastly, he is active in the annual AIDS Walk and the Gay and Straight in Christ Group at his parish. Joe enjoys home remodeling, gardening, cooking, reading, and working out. Joe and his partner reside in Port Washington, Wisconsin.
