Premier Leadership Healthcare Forum a Rousing Success
- Keynote Speaker, Kenneth Kaufman presented the topic, “Hospitals Succeeding in the New Era” to a sold out crowd.
The College of Health Sciences hosted the annual Leadership Healthcare Forum on March 6th at the Italian Conference Center with an overflow crowd of over 350 healthcare professionals and community participants in attendance. The event was emceed by WISN-TV 12’s morning anchor, Portia Young.
Since Congress passed the Affordable Care Act, healthcare organizations and leaders from across the country have been strategizing and exploring ideas and initiatives that will enable successful implementation. However many questions still remain. To help the local dialogue around this issue, the College created the Leadership Healthcare Forum.
Keynoter Kenneth Kaufman addressed the topic “Hospitals Succeeding in the New Era.” His new paradigm for hospitals captured the imagination of all in attendance. Kaufman is Chair of Chicago-based Kaufman, Hall & Associates, Inc., and is a nationally-known speaker, author and consultant.
He described the new environment and identified the critical trends, issues and tactics that can help hospitals and health systems manage through changing and challenging times. He talked about how providers must compete and the competencies that will be required for success.
Kaufman provided a roadmap that leadership teams should consider for delivering healthcare to communities within a cost-constrained environment. The roadmap includes critical elements required to change their hospital or health system to one that delivers value-based care, thereby reducing healthcare costs while improving care quality, outcomes and access. He also offered concrete examples of how organizations have achieved roadmap elements.
Following was a lively panel discussion with distinguished local healthcare leaders, including Catherine Jacobson (President/CEO of Froedtert Health, Inc.), John Oliverio (President/CEO of Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, Inc.), Mark Taylor (President/CEO of Columbia St. Mary’s, Inc.) and John B. Torinus, Jr., (Chair of Serigraph). The moderator was William Petasnick, Principal, William Petasnick & Associates LLC and past Chair of the American Hospital Association. There were many challenging audience questions and the differing viewpoints from panel members made for a lively discourse.
