Dr. Berger joined the faculty of the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee in August 2005. Before that, she spent more than seven years on the staff of CABHR, as both an associate researcher and research program manager. She completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and earned a master of social work and a doctorate in urban studies at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.

Her research interests include the workplace and employee alcohol abuse, the recruitment and retention of research participants in intervention studies, and factors involved in long-term recovery from alcohol dependence. Recently, she and CABHR colleagues received a faculty grant from the Silberman Fund to test a new measure of change attempts from alcoholism.

Her primary teaching responsibility is social work practice evaluation at the graduate level.
