While at CABHR, Dr. Muriuki intends to study the interplay of social environment and behavior risk, particularly as it applies to the health of Milwaukee residents. He will also examine how the collective action of the Chicago population of men who have sex with men affects their risk behaviors. In addition, he will work on a policy manuscript based on his dissertation, “The Role of Household Environment on Health Outcomes for Female Adolescents in Kenya.” His research interests include the impact of HIV/AIDS on households in Africa.
Dr. Muriuki completed his doctorate in social work in 2007 at the University of Missouri–Columbia, where his efforts were commended by his peers and the alumni board: He received the 2007 Social Work Outstanding Ph.D. Award, and the 2007 Missouri University Graduate Student Association Superior Achievement Award. Dr. Muriuki also earned a master’s degree in public policy and management from Carnegie Mellon University.
