The mission of the Center for Volunteerism & Student Leadership (CVSL)
is to foster an ethic of service and leadership within the UW-Milwaukee
campus community by promoting and supporting volunteerism that addresses
human and social needs.
|
To accomplish this CVSL will:
Empower students by placing them in service settings that promote personal and professional growth.
Link students, faculty, staff and alumni to existing and new service opportunities.
Facilitate leadership development by supporting the work of student organizations in the community.
Develop collaborative partnerships with campus programs that support civic and community engagement.
Services
Individuals can come to the Center, which is located in the UWM Union in room G28
and search a database of volunteer opportunities at non-profit agencies in the area.
The Center will also help members of the campus community choose opportunities
based on their interests, time availability, skills and other factors that are
important to them.
If you are a member of an organization who would like to participate in a one-time
activity for your group, the Center can help you identify an event or organization
that you can work with.

History

UWM as an urban university, has unique opportunities to form partnerships
within the greater Milwaukee community. Indeed, many agree that UWM
has an obligation to pursue these collaborative relationships, connecting
our knowledge and resources to the asset of the community to enhance
learning and to respond to societal needs. The Center for Volunteerism & Student
Leadership, founded in 2001, is one of many avenues to such partnerships
