UW System Cluster for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning History, Structure, Activities

History

The UW System Cluster Leadership Site (LS) for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is a result of joint cooperation between the Center for Professional and Instructional Development (CIPD) at UW-Milwaukee, and the Office of Professional and Instructional Development (OPID) housed in Madison. In coming to understand the nature of SoTL work through AAHE (American Association of Higher Education) and Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CASTL), CIPD and OPID connected in a systematic way to encourage SoTL discussions and research on all UW campuses. In July 2002, a joint OPID/CIPD Steering Committee was formed to define the purposes and outline the structure of a system-wide Leadership Site in SoTL, to be housed at UW-Milwaukee. This steering committee attended an AAHE Summer Academy on SoTL, and used that time to create a action plan for the upcoming year. Following this initial meeting, support from UW-Milwaukee and UW System administrators was secured, and the UW System Leadership Site began its work. The development of a UWS SoTL Leadership Site housed at UWM was announced at the AAHE meeting in March 2003 and the site was officially opened in July 2003. Our UW System Leadership Site was one of twelve national clusters sponsored by AAHE and Carnegie's CASTL Campus Program. We are the only cluster that involves an entire system of campuses.
