Admission Test Series
This series of tests is required of applicants who do not meet UWM's standard admission criteria. The results of these tests will assist in determining admissibility to the University. The test series lasts approximately 4 hours and is offered one Monday per month at 4 p.m. and various Tuesdays at 8:30 a.m. The use of non-graphing, non-programmable calculator is allowed. Appointments are required. The Admissions Office will notify you with the results of your tests and the status of your admission.

This test series includes:



Nelson Denny Reading Test This test is part of the Admissions Test Series. A two-part test, the Nelson-Denny measures vocabulary development, comprehension, and reading rate. Part I (Vocabulary) is a fifteen-minute timed test; Part II (Comprehension and Rate) is a twenty-minute test. If you will be taking the ATS series, it is not necessary to sign up for this test separately.


English Placement Test (EPT) The English Placement Test consists of three subtests. These subtests are English Usage, Sentence Correction, and Reading Comprehension. The entire English Placement Test is designed to be completed in 90 minutes. This is sufficient time for most students to complete the test.

If you are an incoming New Freshman, you must register for "New Freshman Placement Tests" once you receive your letter inviting you to do so.


Math Placement Test The Mathematics Placement Test consists of 85 items measuring three different sets of skills: Math Basics, Algebra, and Trigonometry. The test takes 90 minutes to complete. Students are allowed to bring and use a scientific calculator; however calculators often will not be provided at the test site. Graphing calculators may not be used and will not be permitted in the testing room. Only non graphing, non programmable calculators are permitted for use on this test.
