What You Need to Know About Testing
After you are admitted to UW-Milwaukee, you are required to take UW-System placement tests in math and English. Depending on your course of study, you may also be required to take an exam in chemistry and/or foreign language. These tests must be completed before you can register for classes.

Remember, placement tests help determine which classes you are able to take first in the given subject. Taking these tests will not affect your admission status. Transfer and re-entry students may be required to take placement tests depending on previous course work and intended major.

Required Tests:
Optional Tests:

The results of these tests will be used to help you and your advisor select the appropriate courses to take at UWM during New Freshman Orientation. It is to your advantage to take your placement tests as soon as possible, and pay the $120.00 New Freshman fee that will be billed to you after testing. These must be completed in order to be invited to New Freshman Orientation.

If you are admitted for the fall semester, testing information will be mailed in February or soon after your admittance.  If you are being admitted for the spring semester, it will be mailed out in October.  Once you receive your testing information, you will be instructed to register for your placement testing.
