Work-Study Opportunities within Financial Aid

The Department of Financial Aid, Student Employment, and Military Education Benefits is currently accepting applications for the following federal work study positions:

  • Financial Aid Program Assistant - This individual will assist the Scholarship Coordinator with carrying out various scholarship and related projects, including review and data entry of confidential information. Strong math, analytical and organizational skills are required. This is a year-round position which begins as soon as possible. Preference is for a student who is available to work 15 or more hours per week during the summer, and up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters.   • Loan Unit Assistant - The primary function of this position is to assist the Loan Unit Coordinators with various private, federal, and state loan program tasks. Responsibilities include reviewing applications for accuracy and completeness, determining eligibility, and processing loans. Additional activities involve analyzing reports, researching information and making follow up phone calls to students/parents. This position will perform general office related tasks as deemed necessary.  If interested, complete and submit the Job Application Form found below to seghan@uwm.edu.   • Financial Aid Processor - Under general supervision, this position provides a wide range of data entry and clerical related assistance to the supervisory and professional staff. Primary function is to assist the advising and program units of the department in processing forms and materials from financial aid applicants.This position will utilize a document imaging software program in dealing with all incoming documents.This position routinely deals with special projects and the candidate will be expected to maintain strict confidentiality.  If interested please complete the Job Application Form found below, indicating Financial Aid Processor. The financial aid process is complicated and a very sensitive topic; special skills are required to excel in these positions. Ongoing training is provided, but the ideal candidate will need to be able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, often with minimal supervision. All positions require excellent communication skills and experience in providing superior customer service (often under stressful conditions). The candidate should be energetic, possess a strong work ethic, be self-motivated, reliable, empathetic, and have a strong desire to help their fellow students, co-workers, and other customers.

Preference will be given to students who are able to start employment this spring, have eligibility for federal work study (though not necessarily offered it), can work approximately 15 hours per week for the rest of the semester, and desire to continue employment during the summer. Preference will also be given to students who plan on taking classes during the summer and wish to work year-round.  While hours can be somewhat flexible, we will look to maximize coverage during our normal office hours.
