ROVRemotely Operated Vehicle

A remotely operated vehicle, or ROV, is an underwater robot that is controlled from a ship via a connecting tether, allowing researchers to collect data, samples, and video footage. The ROV operated by the School of Freshwater Sciences can descend to a depth of 1,000 feet and is equipped with a camera; a suction device for collecting samples; and sensors for collecting temperature, oxygen, pH, and conductivity data. The ROV also has the ability to shock fish for surveys and to collect cores of soft sediment.
