Application Process
You have reviewed the admission requirements and are ready to take the next steps. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Decide When to Apply
You are encouraged to apply early. The sooner UWM receives a completed application, the sooner you will receive an admission decision! Applications for fall semester are due no later than July 1, although they will be accepted from September of the previous year. The spring semester deadline is December 1 but we will begin accepting those the preceding summer.

However, some schools and colleges have their own deadlines:

School of Architecture and Urban PlanningYou need to submit a complete application by January 1 for the summer/fall semester or November 1 for the spring semester. Applications completed after these deadlines may be reviewed on a space available basis. Please contact the School of Architecture and Urban Planning if you have further questions at sarup-advising@uwm.edu or 414-229-4015.

Peck School of the ArtsFor scholarship consideration, please apply by March 15 for fall admission. Please contact the Peck School of the Arts if you need more information at 414-229-4763.

College of NursingYou should complete your application by January 1 for the fall semester or November 1 for the spring semester. Applications after received after this deadline will be made on a case-by-case basis. In general, exceptions will be considered for students whose presence would uniquely enrich the UW-Milwaukee community. Considerations may include diversity, exceptionally strong academic preparation, or special talent/ability.

If appropriate, please submit with the application a supporting note or personal statement highlighting the unique contributions the applicant would bring to the College of Nursing. Special consideration will also be given to applicants from the UW-Colleges. Please contact the College of Nursing if you need more information at 414-229-5482.

  2. Complete the Application
We encourage you to complete the online application although you may complete the paper application. Our office receives online applications the first business day after you submit them. These applications make it easy to pay the application-processing fee with the credit card option. You need to pay the application fee unless you have previously attended UWM as a degree candidate, or if you are transferring directly from one of the thirteen 2-year campuses in the UW System.

The same paper application is used at all UW System campuses and is available at all Wisconsin high schools, many Illinois high schools, and always by mail. To have application materials sent to you, please contact the Department of Recruitment and Outreach at 414-229-2222.

You have several options for paying your application fee. You may pay with a credit card when submitting an electronic or paper application, or you may mail a check or money order to:

    University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
    Department of Enrollment Services
    P.O. Box 749
    Milwaukee, WI 53201-0749

Effective September 1, 2008, the undergraduate application fee is $44. Students who have already earned their first degree from UWM do not need to pay the application processing fee.

  3. Send Us Your Transcripts
TranscriptOfficial transcripts from each institution attended must be sent to:

    University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
    Department of Enrollment Services
    P.O. Box 749
    Milwaukee, WI 53201-0749

If you are using UPS, FedEx or other ground shipment companies to send us your transcripts, please address them to:

    Department of Enrollment Services
    Mellencamp Hall 274

An official transcript is usually sent from one institution to another with an official school seal. (Please note that if you open the official transcript envelope, the transcript will no longer be considered official). Contact your former institution's Registrar's Office to learn how to request a transcript. Click here for more information on how to request a transcript from a UW System campus to be sent to UWM.

If you are applying to a program within the College of Letters and Science, you are also required to submit an official high school transcript.

  4. File Complete for an Admission Decision
Once we have received all the information we requested from you, your application is considered complete. We want to review your documents carefully and since we process over 10,000 applications each year, please allow 6-8 weeks during peak application periods for us to process your completed application.

  5. Visit Campus
Visiting UWM and taking a tour will give you a personal feel for the campus, the ability to ask current students questions, gather information on campus resources and activities, and so much more. Contact the Department of Recruitment and Outreach at 414-229-2222 to schedule a tour.
