 | New Freshman Application Process Now that you are ready to take the next step, here is what you need to do: - Decide When to Apply
You are encouraged to apply early, before the application deadline, to UWM regardless of your intended major. The sooner UWM receives a completed application, including application fee and all relevant documents, the sooner you will receive an admission decision!
- Complete the Application
We strongly encourage you to complete the on-line application although you can complete the paper application. Our office receives on-line applications the first business day after you submit them. These applications make it easy to pay the application - processing fee with a convenient credit card option.
The same paper application is used at all UW System campuses and is available at all Wisconsin high schools, many Illinois high schools, and always by mail. To have application materials sent to you, please contact the Department of Recruitment and Outreach at 414-229-2222.
You have several options for paying your application fee. You may pay with a credit card when submitting an electronic or paper application. You may also mail a check or money order to:
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Department of Enrollment Services P.O. Box 749 Milwaukee, WI 53201-0749 Effective September 1, 2008, the undergraduate application fee is $44.
- Send Us Your Transcripts
New freshmen are required to submit official high school transcripts. If you already graduated, the transcript must have all four years of high school with grades and a graduation date posted. If you are applying while enrolled in your senior year, it must have junior year grades posted. A list of 12th grade courses in progress is also required. If your transcript does not include them, a written list is acceptable. You should contact your high school to send official transcripts to:
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Department of Enrollment Services P.O. Box 749 Milwaukee, WI 53201-0749 If you are using UPS, FedEx or other ground shipment companies to send us your transcripts, please address them to:
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Department of Enrollment Services Mellencamp Hall 274 2442 E. Kenwood Blvd Milwaukee, WI 53211-3363 If you have completed your GED or HSED, you are required to submit both official high school transcripts and official GED/HSED test scores.
- Send Us Your Test Scores
New freshman need to submit ACT or SAT test scores to the Department of Enrollment Services. When you take the ACT/SAT, select UWM (ACT school code: 4658/ SAT school code: 1473) to have your scores sent directly to UWM.
If you have taken Advanced Placement exams (AP), International Baccalaureate exams (IB), or the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams and would like UWM to evaluate these scores for possible credit, please have your results sent to the Department of Enrollment Services from these testing agencies. You may want to visit our Testing Center website for information about taking many of these exams right here on our campus.
Once we have received all the information we requested from you, your application is considered complete. Then it is our turn to make an admission decision. We want to review your documents carefully and since we process over 10,000 applications each year, this can take some time. Please allow at least 3-4 weeks during peak application periods for us to process your completed application.
- Come Visit Our Campus
Visiting UWM and taking a tour will give you more information than you could ever hope to receive from a publication or a website. Experience a personal feel for campus, ask questions of current students and gather information on campus resources and activities as you test drive the university to determine if UWM is a good fit for you. Contact the Department of Recruitment and Outreach at 414-229-2222 to schedule a tour.

- Consider Your Housing Options
On-campus housing availability is limited, with housing contracts awarded based on the date you apply for admission. It is to your advantage to apply as early as possible, especially if you are interested in on-campus housing. On your application for admission, select yes for on campus housing. If you forget to select on campus housing, please call 414-229-5932 and request that your housing selection is updated.
Housing in the UWM neighborhood as well as commuting to campus are also options to consider.
