Application Process
  1. Determine Which Type of Reentry Student You Are
    There is one application process for a student who was previously enrolled at UWM as a degree candidate and a different process for a non-degree/special student.

    for Previous UWM Degree Candidates
    If you left UWM in good standing (i.e., GPA at least 2.0 or above) for a semester or more, you will have a relatively easy process to complete. Simply fill out the Undergraduate Reentry Application and submit it to the Department of Enrollment Services.

    Regardless of how long you have been out of school, if you were academically dropped from UWM, you must obtain official permission to reenter from the academic dean of the school/college from which you were dropped. Please contact the academic advisor in the school/college for which you were previously enrolled. After obtaining permission to reenter, submit the Undergraduate Reentry Application.

    If you have a hold on your UWM record and you would like to reenter, you will have to fulfill your obligation to UWM before you can be readmitted.

    Move to Step #2.

    for Previous UWM Non-Degree/Special Students
    If you previously attended UWM as a Special Student and would like to begin an undergraduate degree program, you will need to fill out the Undergraduate Application for Admission and submit official high school and all college transcripts. Effective September 1, 2008, the undergraduate application fee is $44. To have information sent to you, please contact the Department of Recruitment and Outreach at 414-229-2222 or contact the Office of Adult/Returning Student Services at 414-229-6732 if you are an adult returning to school. Each of these departments will be able to assist you.

  2. Submit Your Transcripts
    If you attended another institution in your absence from UWM, you are required to submit all official college transcripts.

    All official transcripts from each institution attended (since you attended UWM) must be sent to:

    If you are using UPS, FedEx or other ground shipment companies to send us your transcripts, please address them to:

    An official transcript is usually sent from one institution to another with an official school seal. (Please note that if you open the official transcript envelope, the transcript will no longer be considered official). Contact your former institution's Registrar's Office to learn how to request a transcript. View the UW System HELP Office website for more information on how to request a transcript from a UW System campus.

  3. Meet the Deadline
    FOR SPRING 2009 ONLY: The December 1 deadline has been extended to Monday, December 15. All materials including the application and supporting documents (test scores, fees, transcripts, etc.) must be received in our office by this new deadline.

    This may be new to you, depending on when you last attended UWM. We do have application deadlines, and they apply to all students including reentering students. If you want to start in the fall, the deadline is July 1. If you are thinking about coming to school in the spring, the deadline is December 1.

    Just like the admission requirements, some schools and colleges have their own deadlines:

    School of Architecture and Urban Planning
    You need to submit a complete application by January 1 for the summer/fall semester or November 1 for the spring semester. Applications completed after these deadlines may be reviewed on a space available basis.     Peck School of the Arts
    You should complete your application by January 1 for the fall/summer semester or November 1 for the spring semester to receive priority. Applications completed after these dates may be reviewed on a space available basis. Please contact the Peck School of the Arts if you need more information at 414-229-4763.

    College of Nursing
    You should complete your application by January 1 for the fall semester or November 1 for the spring semester. Applications after received after this deadline will be made on a case-by-case basis. In general, exceptions will be considered for students whose presence would uniquely enrich the UW-Milwaukee community. Considerations may include diversity, exceptionally strong academic preparation, or special talent/ability.
