The UWM Libraries support the research, instructional programs, and public service of all faculty, students and researchers. UWM Libraries include General and Special Collections, Archives, and three distinct libraries — Media and Reserve, Music and the American Geographical Society Library — all located in the Golda Meir Library building.
With 5.2 million cataloged items, online access to thousands of journals and databases, a staff committed to serving the needs of the learning community, and nine acres of floor space, the UWM Libraries are the largest and most comprehensive academic research library in southeastern Wisconsin.
The UWM Libraries are critical to the success of the University’s ambitious agenda of student achievement and faculty research growth.

- Digitizing Initiatives Fund
- Endowed Positions
In 2009, a major renovation transformed the west wing first floor into the Daniel M. Soref Learning Commons, a vibrant, flexible, and technology-rich learning space which has truly enhanced student academic success.
Strengthening CollectionsParticipating in the Book Naming Program and establishing an Endowed Collection supports new campus research initiatives and new academic programs. Funding insures the continuous acquisition of resources to sustain the breadth and quality of our University’s research and teaching and also helps to attract and retain talented professionals.
Digital Library Initiatives FundGiving to this fund will expand access to our unique collections. Rare and fragile library resources are made accessible globally to advance research and promote learning.
Endowed PositionsEndowed positions greatly enhance the University’s and Libraries’ prestige and help ensure future excellence in leadership positions. These include the Directorship, Curator of the American Geographical Society Library, Archivist and Special Collections Librarian.
Support Librarianship for the 21st CenturySupporting Graduate Internships or a Post Graduate MLIS Diversity Residency Program will encourage individuals from diverse backgrounds to consider librarianship and information studies as a future career option. It will also bring a broader pool of future thinking professionals into the workforce.
