Helen Bader School of Social Welfare Scholarship Opportunities


2015/2016 Scholarships are available!

Scholarships provide additional financial support for eligible students. Through the generosity and vision of friends, alumni and faculty, the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare has established scholarships through the UWM Foundation for the benefit of its students. These scholarships are in addition to the scholarships available through UWM’s Financial Aid Office.

Follow the steps below to apply for available scholarships. Some scholarships may require that you submit information in addition to the application form. Please read carefully all the information concerning the scholarship(s) for which you are applying. The Scholarship Committee will only consider fully complete applications.

The deadline for submission of applications is March 2, 2015. The submission period for all scholarship applications is February 2 – March 2, 2015.

STEP 1: Review all information below about the scholarship(s) for which you are qualify and are applying. Follow the requirements accordingly.

STEP 2: Complete the online Application for Scholarships

STEP 3: Email your completed online application to the Scholarship Committee at hbssw-scholar@uwm.edu (may be e-mailed in either Microsoft Word or PDF format). In the subject line of your email, please type your full name and student ID number. Completed applications include a completed Scholarship Form and Personal Statement. Completed applications will only be accepted via email.

STEP 4: If chosen as a recipient for one or more scholarships, you must attend UWM for the Fall 2015 semester and attend the HBSSW Recognition Ceremony on May 13, 2015 in order to receive the scholarship.

Dean’s New Freshman Scholarship

  • Undergraduate: Amount varies
  • Newly admitted freshman
  • Full-time enrollment for fall
  • 3.5 or higher GPA
  • ACT/SAT scores
  • Social Work or Criminal Justice major

Kathleen Scheller Memorial Scholarship

  • Undergraduate: Min. $500
  • Social Work major
  • Non-traditional student (40+ years)
  • Receiving financial aid

National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (N.O.B.L.E.)

  • Undergraduate: Min. $1000
  • Member of under-represented racial minority group with a preference for African-Americans
  • Junior or senior standing
  • 2.5 or higher GPA
  • Receiving financial aid
  • Interest in working in a correctional or criminal justice agency

Don and Helen Banta Scholarship
