Five Residences, Two Locations

Freshman, sophomore and junior, and international students call UWM’s five residences home. Each one has its own personality. Graduate students and students with unique housing needs also can reside in our convenient and secure UWM residences.

UWM’s Main East-side Campus

• Sandburg Halls of Residence
  2,800 students in four towers, connected by the two-story Sandburg Commons. Communities composed of single-sex “suites” create a living/learning environment that is ideal for first and second-year students.

• Purin Hall
  Home to a close-knit community of 50 students, mostly sophomores and juniors, Purin apartments are all-inclusive and feature modern amenities – with a dash of ‘50s-era ambiance.

South Campus

One mile south of UWM by shuttle, bike, foot.

The UWM housing community grew in the mid-2000s, as more freshman and sophomore students made UWM their first-choice university. To offer each of them a UWM address three new university residences were built one mile from our East Side campus.

• Kenilworth Square Apartments
  The Kenilworth Square Apartments offer an international and more urban living experience. Students must be 22 to live in this apartment-style community in the heart of Milwaukee’s vibrant East Side. Students from around the world make Kenilworth their home.

• RiverView
  RiverView is a residential community that primarily serves UWM freshmen, with shared kitchens, ample common space, on and off-site dining options for 475 students – situated along the scenic Milwaukee River.

• Cambridge Commons
  Cambridge Commons is the newest, greenest UWM residence and the only LEED Gold certified building in the UW System. From bedroom and bathroom wiring to its study and social spaces, this cutting edge residence is a campus jewel. Across the river from RiverView, Cambridge’s wide-open courtyard is home to pick-up frisbee, football and yoga.

Students make friends easier, feel more connected to their college and do better academically when they live on campus.

Amenities and opportunities are available in every residence. Residence-life staff live and work in every residence. They know what the daily grind is like for new students.

UWM Mandatory Housing Requirement

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee requires all first-time, full-time freshmen who are 20 years of age or younger as of September 1 at the beginning of the academic year in question to live in University Housing residence halls, where availability allows. The following students are eligible to request an exemption from the residency requirement: those living with parents or guardians, those who are 21 years of age or older (as of 9/1), veterans, students who are married or who have an affidavit of domestic partnership, or those student who are themselves parents or guardians. Parking and transit offers a menu of affordable transportation resources to meet the needs of every UWM student – anywhere in southeastern Wisconsin. Services are free, unless otherwise noted.
