UWM hosts a night of African music Jan. 13
African Music Ensemble

This Friday, January 13, the UWM Peck School of the Arts welcomes the African Music Ensemble, direct by Sowah Mensah, to the Helen Bader Concert Hall at 7:30pm.

This concert of African music will include singing, drumming, xylophones and flutes. Special Ghanaian guest dancer Patience Boni will also perform. Friday night's program will include "Agbadza" (Ewe tradition), "Adenkum" (Akan women's music), and "Ya Ya Kole" (a Dagara harvest song) among others. The 40-member African Music Ensemble was founded in 1987 and performs traditional pieces from Ghana, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Guinea, the Gambia, Kenya, Tanzania, and original compositions by Sowah Mensah.
