Welcome to the UW-Milwaukee College of Nursing Website!
As Dean of UWM College of Nursing, I am honored to work with an incredible group of colleagues within a vibrant university environment! We are committed to engagement with scholars and scientists from other disciplines and the community to promote innovation and discovery that will provide solutions to advance health for all. I am so proud of our nearly 6,000 alumnae who are initiating innovations in health care across the globe and encourage each of you to add information to the Tell Us About You section on this website.
Always in the top 10% of US News & World Report rankings, UWM CON boasts excellence in the research, academic and practice arenas. The Harriet H Werley Center for Nursing Research and Evaluation staff continues to provide outstanding pre-award support that has boosted the CON research award portfolio by 300% over the past 5 years. This is attributable in part to a major National Institutes of Health award to the CON to launch the UWM Self Management Science Center, and the Knowledge Based Nursing Initiative (KBNI), a major program of translational informatics research supported by National Science Foundation and several corporate partners. More than a dozen funded projects in the Institute for Urban Health Partnerships support our translational research initiatives in community and public health. We recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Silver Spring Community Nursing Center and the 15th anniversary of the House of Peace Community Nursing Center and have newly renovated facilities for each center. Our Center for Cultural Diversity and Global Health supports integration of multi-cultural experiences across the curricula and supports our expanding international affiliations which include building learning student and faculty exchanges, campus programs that promote bi-cultural/bi-lingual programming and research opportunities.
Please investigate our excellent undergraduate program opportunities at our three campuses – UW-Milwaukee, UW-Parkside and UW-Washington County. We also have on-site healthcare system programs for BSN completion and an On-line option through our BSN@Home program. Our Direct Entry Masters Program for students choosing nursing as a second career is one of the fastest growing segments of student enrollment. We have a long history of graduate programs for Clinical Nurse Specialists and Family Nurse Practitioners. The PhD program has been a recognized program of excellence for more than two decades and our On-line PhD program has been a very popular option for doctoral students across the globe since its inception in 2003. In response to the need for a rapidly changing health care practice environment, the college is planning the launch of a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2009.
Each year is a busy and challenging time at the UW-Milwaukee College of Nursing. I hope you will take the time to get to know us better by visiting us often as we expand and update this new website.
