The Faculty Practice Program
Faculty practice is defined by the UWM College of Nursing as
professional nursing activities that support its mission. Activities
may include the provision of direct health care, education,
and/or consultation services to persons, families, agencies,
and communities that support the faculty member’s teaching
and/or research responsibilities.
The faculty practice program links the faculty with community
agencies and/or institutions such as hospitals to provide clinical,
educational and/or research consultation services on a contractual
basis.
Some examples of services include:
- Development of community health education programs
- Health care research facilitation and/or consultation
- Provision of health care by nurse practitioners or clinical nurse
specialists
- Community health assessments
- Strategic Planning and Program evaluation
- Continuous quality management
Benefits of the Faculty Practice Program include:
- Fostering collaborative relationships between UWM's College
of Nursing faculty and community agencies/healthcare systems.
- Providing innovative, high-quality nursing services to urban
populations in outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Contributing to the growth and development of the sponsoring
agency/institution through the utilization of renowned nursing
experts.
