Community-based Participatory Research

The UWM College of Nursing has a long history of engagement with partners in the planning and implementation of practice, education and research initiatives that benefit the community. Our community nursing centers, established over a quarter of a century ago, continue to explore innovative ways to improve access and outcomes for urban individuals and families at greatest risk for poor health outcomes. The UWM Institute for Urban Health Partnerships launched by the College of Nursing in 1996 provides institutional support for many CBPR initiatives. Through community collaborations we are advancing science in the areas of primary health care delivery, health promotion and disease prevention, self care management of chronic diseases, environmental health and community genetics.
