Parking Regulations

It is the responsibility of the motor vehicle operator to be aware of UWM parking regulations and to find legal parking space. Lack of a legal space is not considered a valid excuse for parking illegally.

  1. Parking in a restricted area without a proper permit, a no parking zone, loading zone, fire lanes or in a manner which obstructs traffic is strictly prohibited This is enforced at all times. 
  2. Vehicles parked illegally are subject to tow-away at the owner's expense. 
  3. Any vehicle on campus that owes more than $150 to Parking & Transit are subject to towing and impoundment at owner's expense..
  4. Speed limit in driveways and all parking areas is 5mph. 
  5. Pedestrians shall be given the right-of-way at all crosswalks. 
  6. Overnight parking is permitted only for vehicles displaying resident overnight permits and third-shift permits in the areas designated for their use from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. 
  7. Unauthorized vehicles parked in excess of 24 hours are subject to tow-away at owners expense. 
  8. Vehicles must be parked within stall markings. 
  9. The University Police will not honor calls requesting that vehicles parked without permits be exempt from parking citations. 
  10. Observe regulations posted on meters. All metered parking is limited to the maximum number of hours posted on the meter. Exceeding this time zone subjects the vehicle to multiple enforcement actions. If meter is out of order notify the Parking & Transit Office (229-5644). Give location and number of meter (stenciled on post). If prior notification is given and meter is verified to be malfunctioning a citation will be rescinded. 
  11. The right is reserved to close any parking area or facility for University purposes. Advanced notice will be given when practical. No refunds or special accommodations are guaranteed to permit holders. 
  12. The University assumes no liability for loss or damage to any vehicle or contents thereof while parked in an authorized University area. 
  13. The regulations are enforced throughout the calendar year including recesses. 
  14. The registered owner/permit-holder/operator is responsible for all violations attached to the vehicle and is thus subject to any and all forfeitures resulting from these violations. 
  15. All provisions of Chapter 346 Wisconsin Statutes (1975) entitled "Rules of the Road," as applicable to highways and which are not inconsistent with specific provisions of these regulations, are hereby incorporated by reference and adopted for the regulation of all vehicular traffic, including bicycles, on all roads and driveways, including all off-street areas designated as parking facilities under the control of the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System. Said statutory provisions are intended to apply with the same force and effect. All traffic shall obey the posted signs approved by the Chancellor or designee responsible for regulating such traffic. 
  16. Any person avoiding payment of required parking fee or in violation of University Parking Regulations is subject to penalties and forfeitures as described under Penalties.
