Consider a career in Musicology; Music History & Literature and Studies in Ethnomusicology. The curriculum in Music History and Literature is designed to provide a variety of course offerings in music history, theory, performance, contemporary art forms, cultural studies, and research in music for students interested in pursuing these and related areas at the graduate level. While diversified in its academic and performance components, the curriculum sufficiently emphasizes each and prepares the student for specialization at higher-degree levels.
This undergraduate program focuses on the historical and critical study of music, and prepares the student for further study in musicology, ethnomusicology, music librarianship or music criticism. The degree requires 130 undergraduate credits, including 68 music credits, of which 12 are musicology or ethnomusicology courses.
Special core curriculum requirements include foreign language; history courses will also fulfill the humanities distribution and the Arts Core Curriculum. 12 credits of electives in related fields are required. Three credits must be taken in an appropriate English composition course.
