Scott R. Corley, conductor
The UWM Symphony Band is the second of the three concertizing ensembles in the UWM Bands performance area. The ensemble is generally made up of undergraduate and (some) graduate music majors, but it is also open to non-Music students with significant performance skills, through our Fall auditions (see: -link-held during the first week of school each year).
The Symphony Band ranks as one of the finest of its kind, having performed with a number of distinguished composers such as John Mackey, John Corigliano, Joseph Schwantner, Karel Husa, Samuel Adler, Warren Benson, Fisher Tull, Anthony Iannocone, and David Holsinger, and gave the Wisconsin Premiere of Michael Markowski’s Tidal Forces in 2010.
In the summer of 1996, the UWM Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band toured Australia and Hawaii. While in Australia, they were a featured ensemble for the 9th Annual Australian Band and Orchestra Association’s National Convention in Melbourne, and performed at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial while in Hawaii.
The UWM Symphony Band was also included in the recording projects “Classics for Wind Ensemble/Symphony Band” and the 2000 GIA Publication “Teaching Music through Performance in Beginning Band”
