Andrea Maio
Andrea Maio likes to talk to strangers. Sometimes she brings her video camera with her and documentary projects ensue. Currently she is at work on three such projects. One is about the complicated legacy of Wilhelm Reich, a psychoanalyst turned scientist whose life and work were snuffed out by a government in the 1950's, and whose archives have been sealed until November of this year. Another is about Maio's time spent living on the Mississippi River in a 50-year-old houseboat, trying to keep up with a group of adept, freewheeling boat punks. And the other is about looking for love in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and finding a wild fire in its stead.

Polina Malikin /
The Archaeology of the Recent Future Association

The Archaeology of the Recent Future Association is the moniker for the many projects and things I like to do, individually and/or collaboratively: film/video, community projects, zines, drawing, printmaking, installation, sculpture, music, curating, and writing. I am always trying to make and support work that inspires vision & hope for a better world. I strive to present such projects (whether they be objects, images, or experiences) in as honest, loving, and interesting a way as possible. Currently, I am working on two projects that deal with portraiture and the dangers and pleasures of looking: One is a series of portraits that I filmed in 6 locations while in China this summer, and the other is a collection of vignettes of Milwaukee children performing as their favorite animals in costumes and sets of their own making. I also run a small arts space called NEIGHBORS where I host a variety of public events and art shows. citizenandneighbor@gmail.com www.ArchaeologyoftheRecentFuture.info
