Ruth Short teaches courses in reading, writing, language arts and children's literature for early childhood and primary grades. Her research interests include early literacy acquisition and early intervention in reading and writing across the curriculum in primary and elementary grades. She is currently working with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee on the SPARK program, an early intervention program for children in grades K-3 who are at risk of reading failure.
Short has worked extensively with school partnerships in Florida and Virginia. She is past president of the Organization of Teacher Educators in Reading, a special interest group of the International Reading Association, and serves on the Editorial Review Board for the Reading Teacher journal.
Short earned her M.A. in elementary education from Northern Michigan University, and her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.
